What is the focus of the Resilient Middle-Schooler?

The program is practical and skills-based, focusing on development of the 4 C’s –

Challenge, Competency, Control and Confidence:

  • Challenge: see setbacks as challenges and see mistakes as learning opportunities
  • Competence: use goal-setting to improve social, emotional and academic skills
  • Control: use self-management skills to devote energy towards areas of personal control and worry less about events that are uncontrollable
  • Confidence: identify and develop unique strengths that help cope with adversity

The Reslient Middle-Schooler can benefit adolescents 11 – 14 years old struggling with organization, planning, emotion regulation or social skills and is facilitated by experienced mental health clinicians at MedPsych Associates of New Jersey, Ramsey.

The program lasts a week, meeting daily for approximately 2.5 hours. The program is offered twice:

Session 1: August 19 – 23, 2019

Session 2: August 26 – 30, 2019

  • Organizational skills
  • Effective verbal and non-verbal communication
  • How to create and maintain friendships
  • Stress management
  • Appropriate use of electronics
